This is a good and rare set of 17 leather bound volumes, The Oxford India Paper Dickens Complete Works. This set was published in the early 1900's, there is no copyright date stated but the India Paper editions from Oxford, London and U.S., were issued between 1900-1909. This set is in good condition. Bound in full olive green leather, the covers are good with light shelf wear. The leather is supple and soft. There is some wearing along the edges to some of the leather covers but overall given age they are very good. The bindings are tight and straight and good, solid. Each has an attached ribbon bookmark which in most volume shows some fraying or fading but they are present and good. Each volume has top outer page edges tipped in gold. There is no lettering to front or back covers but the gold design and lettering along spine of each is good with only mild wearing. Three of the volumes (Pickwick Papers, Bleak House, and A Tale of Two Cities) show fading to spine making them appear less green and more tan. Rest of volumes little to no spine fading. Marbled endpapers each. These are SMALL volumes originally designed not only to look handsome as shelved but to be portable as a grab and go book for pocket or purse and reading anywhere. 12mo book size or 4.75" x 7" each so featuring smaller text.
