This is a very good large hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1940 Riverside Press. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are actually still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Illustrated maps of Audubon's travels in Amerca front and back endpapers. Blue cloth hardcover boards are also very good with maroon block and silver lettering front cover and same style lettering and block on spine. Hardcover boards very good with only very light shelf wear. Larger coffee table style book, imperial octavo book size or 8" x 11" with 328 pages including index.
This edition of Audubon's America the Narratives and Experiences of John James Audubon, 1940 Riverside Press, has been edited by Donal Culross Peattie. It is illustrated with facsimiles of Audubon's prints and paintings. There is a biographical note, What Audubon Knew, and Audubon as a Witness along with chapters that include; Kentucky Days and Nights, Hunters Tales, Pioneer Types, Deep South, Four Proud Fowl, Down East for Birds, and Out West With Buffalo and Indians.
