This is a very good set of 2 hardcovers. Fifth Printing 1964 Princeton University Press. This set is very good inside and out. The inside pages are actually still crisp and clean. The bindings are tight and straight. Brown hardcover boards are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Each volume is medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
This two volume set is titled; Mathematics and Plausible Reasoning with Volume l being Induction and Analogy in Mathematics by G. Polya and Volume ll is Patterns of Plausible Inference, also by G. Polya. The set is a 5th Printing, 1964. The set was originally published in 1954. Each volume contains a Preface and Hints to the Reader.
Volume One has 11 chapters that include Induction, Induction in Solid Geometry, Miscellaneous Examples if Induction, Mathematical Induction, Physical Mathematics, The Isoperimetric Problem, and more. Volume Two continues the chapters starting with Chapter 12, Some Conspicuous Patterns, Chance the Ever Present Rival Conjecture, The Calculus of Probability and Logic of Plausible Reasoning, and more.
