By 1861, the public perception of William Lloyd Garrison had changed from fanatic to respected abolitionist. As editor of The Liberator, his views became widely followed. Garrison was a dedicated fighter for Civil Rights. His letters began in 1822 when he was 17 and ended at the time of his death in 1879. His letters have long been regarded as having significant historical and civil rights value. This volume has been edited by Louis Ruchames and includes an editorial statement and short bios of antislavery men and women.
