This is a very good set of two hardcovers. 1989 Academic Press. Both volumes are still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean, white and bright. The bindings are tight and straight. Hardcover boards on both are also very good, only a hint of shelf wear. The front cover features illustrations along with title/editors and volume details. Each volume is standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
This is a two volume set: The History of Modern Mathematics edited by David E. Rowe and John McCleary. Volume One is subtitled Ideas and Their Reception and Volume Two is subtitled Institutions and Applications. The essays in the volumes were originally presented at the 1988 Symposium on the History of Modern Mathematics. They are intended for general readers, mathematicians, and science historians. They focus on the mathematics of the 19th and early 20th century.
