This is a very good hardcover with accompanying dust jacket. 1994 Konecky & Konecky Publishing reprint. This copy would be like new aside from the previous owners sticker neatly placed under inside front jacket flap (see photo). The pages are still crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Tan hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good, also with only a hint of shelf wear. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 315 pages including appendix.
Recollections of a Confederate Staff Officer by General G. Moxley Sorrel was originally published in 1905. The memoir takes readers inside the workings of the Confederate Army staff. Sorrel was a relatively unknown officer who rose to become Gen. Longstreet's most trusted associate. The book simply relates what Sorrel saw and experienced. There is no grand strategy analysis. But, his vantage point was unique as Longstreet brought him right into the thick of decisive engagements. He was at First Manassas and promoted at Petersburg. He saw action at Sharpsburg and Gettysburg. When Longstreet was wounded at the Wilderness, Sorrel was at his side. Sorrel was himself wounded at Hatcher's Run and when he prepared to return to service, Lee was surrendering at Appomattox.
