This is a very good hardcover with accompanying dust jacket. 1964 Louisiana State University Press. This copy is very clean inside. The pages are actually still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Blue hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only light shelf wear. Hardcover boards feature facsimile of Beauregard's signature in gold on front and gold lettering along spine. the accompanying dust jacket is good, it is showing wear along corners/edges with small tears. But the dust jacket is still holding some shine and very clean. Octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 345 pages including index.
Beauregard Napoleon in Gray by T. Harry Williams was first published in 1955 and considered the authoritative biography of the Confederate General. His military career in the Civil War is significant to the study of the war and leaders, being possibly the most significant. He fired the opening gun at Fort Sumter; commanded Confederate forces at Manassas and planned and fought the first great battle in the West at Shiloh. His strategic ideas were drawn from Jomini and Napoleon. Yet, many of his battle plans were rejected by superiors. This book is his well researched and detailed career.
