This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. Circa 1990's Konecky & Konecky Publishing reprint. This copy would be near fine (almost like new) aside from previous owners name plate neatly placed under inside front jacket flap. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Burnt orange hardcover boards under jacket are almost like new with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is near fine w only a hint of shelf wear. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 46q pages including index.
High Tide at Gettysburg by Glenn Tucker was originally published in 1958. This edition is the Konecky reprint. The book tells the story of the Army of Virginia from June 3 1863 when they began the invasion of PA., to July 13th when they crossed the Potomac. How near the South came to victory is laid out. Had Lee defeated Meade at Gettysburg, he could easily have taken Washington and Baltimore. It also would have made up for the loss to Grant at Vicksburg. The author sets the background for the battle and its unfolding. Personality sketches emerge and misunderstandings are cleared. From Longstreet's role to Pickett's charge, it is an enduring portrait.
