This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover. 1994 Konecky and Konecky Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is near fine, also with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 448 pages including index.
Chickamauga by Glenn Tucker is subtitled Bloody Battle in the West. Originally published in 1961, this is the Konecky reprint. From the dust jacket; "Two and a half months after the Confederate Army's drive into Union territory had been checked by the Federals at Gettysburg, the two armies met near Chattanooga, Tennessee, to dispute control of the West." On Sept. 19th and 20th, 1863, they struggled for control of Chattanooga in terrain like a jungle rather than a battlefield. The outcome was paramount for both sides. For the North it presented a possibility of cutting the South in half and possibly ending the war soon. For the South, the fate of Atlanta and Georgia hung in the balance. The book gives an account of the battle and was the first to give full narrative of the battle and consequences.
