This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. 1962 MacMillan Publishing, but believed to be BOMC edition NOT true First Edition. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Black cloth hardcover boards are also very good with only light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 511 pages including index. Illustrated with maps on endpapers front and back.
The Guns of August was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction, 1963. It was originally published in 1962 and it is a narrative of the early stages of World War One, from the decision to go to war up to the offensive that stopped the German advance into France (Franco-British offensive). From that offensive came four years of trench warfare. Tuchman examines plans, strategies and sentiments before and during the war.
