This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. First Edition 1968 Little Brown Publishing. This copy is remarkably crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Burnt orange hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 514 pages including index. Illustrated maps front and back endpapers.
The Musket and The Cross by Walter D Edmonds is a historical chronicle of colonial America from the earliest settlement to the early 18th century. Part One is a detailed portrait of the growth and structure of French Canada, often overlooked in the study of colonial history. Part Two is primarily concerned with the events in New York, New England and Virginia, the Pequot War and other Indian skirmishes in New England. Part Three covers the loss of New Amsterdam to England, the colonization of Maryland, founding of Pennsylvania and more. Part Four returns to Canada and the consolidation of French power there. Readers also follow expeditions down the Mississippi by Joliet, La Salle and more. The book is a superb narrative and collectible for history readers.
