This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1970 MacMillan Publishing. New York Times Chronicle of American Life. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are actually still crisp and clean. The binding is tight and straight. Black hardcover boards under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is good, showing light shelf wear including a "notch" tear top front edge, but overall good and solid given age. Royal octavo book size or 7" x 10" with 596 pages including index.
The New York Times Chronicle of American Life From the Crash to the Blitz by Cabell Phillips is a history of the revolutionary decade that ran from the stock market crash of 1929 to the onset of World War Two in 1939. It is finely illustrated with over 850 photos and drawings. The author extensively researched the period through New York Times archives, histories, memoirs, diaries, and government reports. The photos and drawings were integrated into the text so as to offer a total historical experience of the decade. The vintage photos capture the entire political, social, cultural and economic scene. Headlines, song covers, radio programs, and movie placards resurrect the feeling of the era.
