This is a very good set of six hardcover. Circa 1940's (believed 1948) Scribners Publishing Sangamon Edition. This set also contains the original publishers pamphlet with Lincoln photo on the front and brief synopsis of each volume. The pamphlet also contains "Six hundred questions about Lincoln - How many can you answer" section. Each volume is very good inside and out. The pages in all are still crisp and clean w no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight w no loose pages seen. All are bound in publishers red hardcover boards w Lincoln bust stamped front cover each. Each has gold lettering w edition/title/volume/author and published in gold along spine. Each volume is medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
Abraham Lincoln by Carl Sandberg is considered the definitive biography of Lincoln. Beginning in 1923 and completed in 1925, the first volume, The Prairie Years was published. Meeting with historians, librarians, family of Civil War soldiers and more to compile the extensive history. In 1939 he published the four volume Pulitzer Prize winning biography; Abraham Lincoln The War Years. Sandberg continued to travel and lecture on Lincoln and is considered the definitive authority on Abraham Lincoln.
