Finely bound from Franklin Library, the edition features brown leather binding with all three page edges tipped in gold gilt. Fine binding appointments include Smyth sewn fine binding, gold gilt design front and spine, attached satin bookmark, and brown silk moire fabric endpapers. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 248 pages.
Letter From an American Farmer is subtitled Describing Certain Situations, Manners, and Customs not generally known, and Conveying Some Idea of the Late and Present Interior Circumstances of the British Colonies in North America. J. Hector St John De Crevecoeur first published the letter in 1782. The book puts forth that owning and farming your own land is the best occupation man can have and only in America through owning land and hard work can one accomplish this. Land ownership is the key to freedom is a recurrent theme.
