This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1966 McGran Hill Publishing. Given age of the title the book overall is remarkably clean inside and out. The pages are still remarkably crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Olive green hardcover boards feature black quarter trim w gold lettering front cover and spine and are very clean with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good for age, it is still clean and shiny with light shelf wear mostly to corners/edges. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.6" with 606 pages including index.
James Boswell The Earlier Years 1740-1769 is a biography of the Scottish author, lawyer, hypochondriac and show-off. The author Frederick Pottle devoted a lifetime to the study of Boswell. The author published two volumes on Boswell, The Earlier Years and The Later Years. This volume is the first, The Earlier Years. The religious turmoils of Boswell along with his affairs, his well kept mistress, and more of his private life are revealed. Yet readers never lose sight of the intrepid traveler, the admired author, the criminal lawyer, and the man overall. Boswell is described as a man during the Age of Enlightenment who managed to think and write like a man of the 20th century.
