This is a very good hardcover. Circa 1970's reprint from Kingsport Press for the original publishers of Jr Library books, Grosset and Dunlap in 1945. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages are clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight and features a fine sewn binding for durability. Hardcover boards are illustrated in full color front with solid blue back. Boards are also very good with only light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 327 pages including full color illustrated endpapers front and back.
Kingsport Press began reprinting The Illustrated Junior Library for Grosset & Dunlap in the 1970's. Grosset and Dunlap began Illustrated Jr Library books of classic literature for young readers in the 1940's. Kingsport continued the tradition of finely illustrated in color and black and white drawings for the editions. Original Illustrated Jr Library books would be Grosset & Dunlap and not include the Kingsport Press note on copyright page so many are NOT original 1940 editions, rather circa 1970 reprints. Check copyright pages for appropriate edition information.
Andersen's Fairy Tales has been translated by Mrs E.V. Lucas and Mrs H.B. Paull. It is illustrated by Arthur Szyk. Classic fairy tales include The Fir Tree, The Red Shoes, The Princess and The Pea, The Snow Queen, The Wild Swans, The Nightingale and more. 29 fairy tales in all fill the pages.
