Many blame him for the Confederate loss at Gettysburg. According to others, had Gen. Robert E Lee listened to him, they would have won the battle. He is certainly one of the great tacticians of the Civil War.
His memoirs reflect the combative style of the soldier and there is still much historical interest in his personal account of the Civil War.
