This is a set of four small hardcovers with accompanying original slipcase. 1948 Pocket Libretto Library Allen Towne and Heath Publishing New York. This set is very good inside and out. Each small hardcover is very clean inside and the pages are clean with only light natural tanning from age. Each book is covered in a different color with a grain-like texture meant to simulate leather. The hardcover boards on all four are very good with only very light shelf wear. The accompanying slipcase is green and does show shelf wear to corners and edges but nonetheless very good and solid given age. 16 mo book size or 4" x 6" each.
The Pocket Libretto or The Pocket Library was designed for ease in carrying around classic titles in purse or pocket for reading anywhere. They were unique and very popular at the time. The set is four of Verdi's operas. Each contains an illustrated frontispiece of Verdi and all are in very good condition. The titles of the operas included are; Verdi: Il Trovatore bound in maroon, Verdi: Rigoletto bound in green, Verdi: La Traviata bound in blue and Verdi: The Barber of Seville bound in brown.
