Texas' Last Frontier Fort Stockton and the Trans-Pecos 1861-1895 by Clayton Williams is a well researched, detailed and thorough account of the history of far west Texas. From the cattlemen and sheepmen, to the citizens and cowboys, the author narratives the story of settling the frontier of Texas from the time the post was abandoned to Confederates at the start of the Civil War through battles for control with Native Americans, and the arrival of railways and mail stages.
