This is a very good hardcover in very good slipcase WITH the original Heritage Press Sandglass pamphlet. Heritage Press circa 1960's. The copyright date states 1938 but that would be the George Macy Publishing original date before the Heritage Press imprint began. Copyright pages were not updated, just repeated for the Macy and Heritage Press imprints, same publishing company. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Handsome sewn binding is tight and straight. Decorated linen cover boasts red filigree and lettering. Illustrated by René Ben Sussan. The slipcase accompanying this edition is also in very good condition. There is only a hint of wear. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5” x 9.5” with 371 pages
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is a historical novel first published in 1859. It tells the story of a French Doctor, Manette, and his long imprisonment in the Bastille. Upon his release, he is set to live in London with his daughter whom he has never met. The novel is a Dickens favorite even today and has been adapted into film and stage and radio.
