This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase. Reprinted from the 1963 original LEC George Macy publishing edition, this copy is most likely circa 1970's as the Heritage Club frequently did not update the copyright page on Heritage Press editions reprinted from the George Macy publishing original edition. Copyright states 1963 but this is most likely a reprint for the imprint Heritage Press which Macy also published. This copy DOES include the original Heritage Press Sandglass pamphlet (not found in the Macy earlier editions). This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight featuring fine durable sewn binding. The green hardcover boards are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature illustrated front and title/author lettering along spine. The accompanying slipcase is very good and solid with only very light shelf wear. Larger size, imperial octavo book size or 8" x 11" with 470 pages including index.
On the Origin of The Species by Charles Darwin was originally published I 1859. It it considered the foundation of evolutionary biology. This edition contains the new preface by Charles Darwin and is finely illustrated with wood engravings by Paul Landacre.
