This is a near fine (almost like new) larger hardcover with accompanying slipcase AND original Heritage Press Sandglass pamphlet. 1943 Heritage Press Illustrated Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight and features a fine sewn durable binding, not a modern less desirable glued binding. Crimson hardcover boards are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear and feature gold title/author/illustrator lettering along spine with gold design. The accompanying gold slipcase is very good with only light shelf wear. Super octavo book size or 7" x 11" with 478 pages.
This edition of The Iliad of Homer by Heritage Press, 1943, is in the English Verse translation by Alexander Pope. It has been illustrated with the classic designs of John Flaxman. Included is a 23 pages Intro by Pope.
The Iliad is an epic poem by the Ancient Greek poet. The Iliad is set during the Trojan War telling the story of Achilles. Themes include pride, greed, wrath but also includes more lighthearted themes of comedy.
