This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1996 State Street Press. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight, featuring a fine swan binding for durability and appearance. The green hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good with only light shelf wear. Crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 759 pages.
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James was first published as a serial in Atlantic Monthly 1880-1881. In late 1881 it was published in book form. It is one of the authors most popular novels. It is a story about a young American woman overwhelmed by her recent large inheritance and destiny. She becomes the victim of American expatriates scheming for her money. Themes of the romantic novel include changes between the New World and The Old along with themes of personal choices, freedom and betrayal
