This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover. 1979 Franklin Library Greatest Books Series. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. Bound in bonded-leather, the fine binding appointments are what would be expected in any Franklin Library binding. Although this series was not bound in fine genuine leather, it is bound in bonded leather and carries the same gold gilt page edges, gold gilt design and lettering on cover and fine sewn binding. Attached satin bookmark. Silk moire fabric endpapers. The hardcover boards on this copy are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 263 pages.
Winesburg Ohio by Sherwood Anderson was first published in 1919. This edition is finely illustrated by John Berkey. The story centers around the fictional town of Winesburg, Ohio NOT to be confused with the REAL town of Winesburg in Ohio. The novel is loosely based on the authors memories of growing up in Clyde Ohio. It is a "short story novel" that contains 22 stories. Each story shares a particular characters past and present. In 1998 Modern Library ranked Winesburg Ohio on is list of the 100 best English novels of the 20th century.
