This is a very good small pocket book hardcover. Circa 1940's Pocket Books Collectors Edition "Fine Books for Everyman with a Dollar". Includes original Pocket Books pamphlet. This copy is very good inside and out. There is only a hint of light natural tanning to pages from age and they are clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight and bound in fine sewn binding for durability. Hardcover boards feature filigree design front and back with black quarter trim and gold lettering on spine. The hardcover boards are also very good with only light shelf wear. The "pocket book" was designed for carrying around in purse or pocket to read anywhere. Near crown octavo book size, slightly smaller, or 4.5" x 7" with 212 pages. Deckle green spotted page edges meant to add to a fine binding look.
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished autobiography of Franklin, written from 1771 to 1790. Pocket Books published in New York began printing favorite titles for the common man to read and collect. Publishing began in 1940. The bindings were done in high quality materials and designed for fine books at a moderate price. Included pamphlets stated they were fine books for everyman with a dollar. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin was the first of the original 20 titles. The first 20 titles included fiction and nonfiction works. They were billed as collectors books for anyone to begin a collection of famous and notable titles.
