This is a near fine (almost like new) larger hardcover. 2003 Media Reprint from the original 1887 Edition. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight and features a fine sewn binding for appearance and durability. All three pages edges are tipped in gold gilt with no wearing to the gilt. Navy blue hardcover boards feature gold illustrations and lettering front and title spine. Imperial octavo book size or 8" x 11" with 570 pages including index.
The Original White House Cook Book was published in 1887. This reprint edition contains all the same recipes, household tips, table etiquette, care of the sick and facts worth knowing. The original publication was touted as "A Comprehensive Cyclopedia of Information for the Home". The original author was Mrs. F.L. Gillette and Hugo Ziemann, Steward of the White House in 1887. In addition to recipes, readers will find "carving" of meats, facts worth knowing, dinner giving, preparations for the sick, suggestions regarding health, dyeing or coloring, and measures and weights.
