This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase 1971 Heritage Press. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean w no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Gold hardcover boards featuring maroon author name front and title/author lettering on spine are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying slipcase is near fine with only very light shelf wear. Medium octavo book size or 7" x 9.5" with 181 pages.
The Stranger by Albert Camus was the first novel of the authors published during his lifetime. This edition is finely illustrated by with paintings by Daniel Maffia and has been translated from the French by Stuart Gilbert. It also contains an Intro by Wallace Fowlie. Originally published in 1942 as a novella, the French writers novel was also published in English titled "The Outsider". Curiously, the novel when published as The Stranger in France during the occupation, it went on sale without censorship. It soon became a favorite and is now considered a classic of literature. Told from first-person narrative, it follows a settler in French Algiers who kills an unnamed man in Algiers. The story is presented as before and after the murder.
