This is a very good leather-bound hardcover. 1961 Golden Press in brown mission leather from Brown and Bigelow. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Bound in brown mission leather, the cover is still soft and supple with civil War flags design embossed front. There is only a hint of shelf wear to cover at corners where small scuffs appear front front right corner and bottom edge. Larger hardcover, quarto book size or 9" x 11" with 322 pages.
The American Civil War by Earl Schenck Miers is a popular illustrated history of the years 1861-1865 as seen by the artists-correspondents who were there. An introduction sets the tone and history of the work and the volume is lavishly illustrated in color and black and white drawings, renderings and advertising from the artist correspondents on the scene. It is engaging and informative and the illustrations bring the history to life for readers.
