This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1991 Smithsonian Books, Norton Publishing. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out AND includes the original Tower of Time poster. The inside pages are crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Red cloth hardcover boards under jacket are also near fine with barely a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is also near fine, clean and shiny, with only a hint of shelf wear. The original Tower of Time poster inside is also near fine and complete. Larger quarto book size or 9" x 11" with 256 pages including index.

The book is a journey through space and time to look at evolution, moving continents and shifting seas, life forms strange and familiar, and continuing change. The author visiting lands all over the world to see the evidence and prowled the halls of noted research institutions to discover findings in geology, paleontology, and even astronomy. It is a natural history of life. The accompanying original poster, The Tower of Time, is John Gurche's painting, the model for a 27 foot mural in Dinosaur Hall at the National Museum of Natural History and shows the 700 million year span of life on Earth.
