This is a very good large hardcover with dust jacket. 1976 Bramhall House Publishing. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is very good, all pages tight and straight. Olive green hardcover boards with tan quarter trim under jacket are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jacket is very good, still showing some shine with only light shelf wear and some minor rubbing corners. Larger hardcover, imperial octavo book size or 9" x 11" with 502 pages including index. Illustrated maps front and back endpapers.
The Annotated Walden, Walden of Life in the Woods and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau is illustrated with maps, portraits, manuscript pages, drawings, and photos. It contains hundreds of notes conveniently placed alongside the text to explain obscure passages, clarify obsolete words, and tell the reader how Thoreau initially expressed his ideas in the basic manuscript. Five introductory chapters describe the personality of Thoreau and give background to the writings. Edited with Intro, Notes and Bibliography by Philip Van Doren Stern.
