PLEASE READ CONDITION NOTES AS ITEM PRICED ACCORDINGLY FOR BINDING FLAW FROM AGE. This is a good set of 2 hardcovers. 1899 Houghton Mifflin Riverside Press Publishing. Both volumes are good inside and out. BINDING VOLUME ONE: inside front cover of Volume One the binding is separating from the attached pages. This begins at blank page #2 and cont. for 4 pages up to illustrated frontispiece opposite title page. The pages are still attached BUT care will be needed to preserve as such given the integrity of the binding is compromised in this section. (see photo) The rest of the binding appears tight and straight. BINDING VOLUME TWO: Volume Two binding is good, pages are tight to binding BUT inside BACK cover of Volume Two separation can be seen although at this point the back cover is attached to pages but again, care or repair will be in order. Both volume inside pages are good and clean. The covers on both are good. The title/author lettering in gold along with gold decorate leafs are good with only light wearing. The back cover of both volumes has light wearing to lettering which was originally in gold, now just apparent as embossed. Both have gold tipped top page edges. Both are crown octavo book size or 5" x 8". This set is priced accordingly for issues.

Cape Cod by Henry David Thoreau is a work describing several trips the author made to Cape Cod between 1849-1855. Both volumes feature an illustrated frontispiece opposite title page with tissue guards still in place.
Each has been illustrated from sketches in colors by Amelia M. Watson. The work was originally published in 1864. It is a delightful work that describes the beauty and nature of Cape Cod.
