Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell was first published in 1936. The book received the Pulitzer Prize in 1937. The historical novel was one of the most popular novels of its time and continues to be popular but it is not without controversy. Scholars still refer to the novel and continue their study and interpretation of it today. It has been criticized for romanticizing the Civil War South, but analysis and interpretation are critical to points of view.
