This edition from The Folio Society of The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith is finely illustrated with lithographs by Margaret Wetherbee. The novel was originally published in 1766. It was extremely popular in the 18th century and remains a favorite of classic literature. The classic has been considered a sentimental novel for the theme of goodness in people. But, it also has been considered a satire on the sentimental novel for the values of the vicar cannot be compatible with the real world and the sins of man.
