This is a very good set of two hardcovers. 1929 Wise Publishing. Volume One stated 1929 First Edition, Volume Two stated Second Edition, June 1929. Each volume is very good inside and out given age. The pages only have light natural tanning from age and are very clean. The bindings are tight and straight. Brown hardcover boards feature embossed emblem and Emerson name front with filigree embossed edge. The hardcover boards are also very good given age, showing some were mostly edges/corners but solid and clean. Super octavo book size or 7" x 10.5" with 1434 pages collectively. Illustrated endpapers both feature Emerson portrait from the etching by Otto J. Schneider. Volume One features same portrait frontispiece and Volume Two features Emerson portrait photo frontispiece.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American poet, philosopher, and lecturer who led the Transcendentalist Movement, mid 19th century. He lectured on the importance of individualism and critical thinking. He often criticized social "norms" and compliance to societal pressures. This set contains his complete writings including essays, poems, studies, biographical sketches, and other works.
