Two Plays by Anton Chekov contain both The Cherry Orchard and Three Sisters. This edition from Heritage Press has been translated from the Russian by Constance Garnett. It has an Intro by John Gielgud and is finely illustrated by Lajos Szalay.
Anton Chekov was a Russian novelist and playwright. The Cherry Orchard was the authors last play, written in 1903. Chekov called it a comedy with elements of farce, but it was treated as a tragedy when produced by Stanislavsky. The narrative centers around an aristocratic Russian landowner who returns to her family estate prior to it being auctioned. The property also contains a cherry orchard. The play presents themes of culture and aristocracy.
The Three Sisters was first performed in 1901 at the Moscow Theatre. Along with The Cherry Orchard, it is considered one of the authors best plays.
