This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover, no dust jacket as published without. 1996 Book of the Month Club edition. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Illustrated hardcover boards feature leaf design front and back and are also near fine. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 423 pages.
Originally published in 1864, The Maine Woods by Henry David Thoreau recounts three excursions into the Maine Woods. His trips were mostly into unexplored areas and as he paddled by moonlight and climbed mountains he took extensive notes which were later published posthumously into this book. He observed rivers, moose, lakes and told of nights by the campfire. The book revealed his adventurous spirit and love of nature.
