This is a very good hardcover. 1942 Walter J Black Publishing, Published for The Classics Club. This copy is still crisp and clean inside. The pages are crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 357 pages. This copy includes the original Classics Club Bulletin that accompanied the book when published and the clear glassine jacket which can be found neatly tucked into the book. Placing the glassine jacket on the book would allow for discoloration and damage as they glassine jacket do not wear well.
In the 1940's The Classics Club published a series of books designed to provide the general public with classic literature and works of distinction. Walter J. Black published the books and they were designed with a fine binding appearance that owners could collect and display without breaking the bank. The bindings are very nice and feature very nice sewn (not glued) bindings with red top stain to outer edge. The Classics Club logo appears on the front and title/author lettering on spine. They were handsomely displayed by owners and collected for both appearance and substance.
The Selected Poems of Walt Whitman contains an extensive collection of the American poets work. This edition was published in 1942 by Walter J. Black for The Classics Club series. Selections include Inscriptions, Starting from Paumanok, Song of Myself, Children of Adam, Song of the Open Road, Sea-Drift, Drum Taps, Passage to India, and many, many more selections.
