This is a very good hardcover. 1948 Walter J Black Publishing, Published for The Classics Club. This copy is still crisp and clean inside. The pages are crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Hardcover boards are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 385 pages.
In the 1940's The Classics Club published a series of books designed to provide the general public with classic literature and works of distinction. Walter J. Black published the books and they were designed with a fine binding appearance that owners could collect and display without breaking the bank. The bindings are very nice and feature very nice sewn (not glued) bindings with red top stain to outer edge. The Classics Club logo appears on the front and title/author lettering on spine. They were handsomely displayed by owners and collected for both appearance and substance.
This edition of Selected Works of Cicero was published in 1948 by Walter J Black Publishing for The Classics Club series. It features an Intro by Harry M. Hubbell. Contents include Second Speech Against Verres, First Speech Against Catiline, In Defense of Marcus Caelius, First Book of On The Laws, Selection from the Republic Scipio's Dream, Letters in the Civil War, Letters After Caesar's Assassination, First Philippic Against Mark Anthony and more. It is a selection from one of the most influential writers/orators of Rome.
