This is a good set of two hardcovers. 1947 Scribner Publishing. This set is good inside and out. There is very mild foxing inside covers (see photo) but no foxing or markings seen on inside pages. The inside pages are very clean both volumes. The bindings on both are tight and straight. Red hardcover boards are very good but there is light fading along spine of both, title/arthor/publisher lettering still legible and good. Each hardcover is medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
This is Volume One and Volume Two ONLY of Allan Nevins Ordeal of the Union series. Originally published in an 8 volume set, Ordeal of The Union Volume One and Two are the first 2 volumes, the 3rd and 4th volumes are titled The Emergence of Lincoln and the 5th-8th were titles The War For The Union. Generally speaking, the entire work is usually referred to as Ordeal of The Union and this offering is for the first two volumes ONLY.
Volume One is subtitled Fruits of Manifest Destiny and Volume Two is subtitled A House Divided. Both were published in 1947. Subsequent volumes were published later from 1950-1971.
