This is a very good hardcover with a good dust jacket. 1993 Corner House Publishing. This copy is very good inside and out. The inside pages are very clean and still crisp with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Navy blue hardcover boards have gold title/author lettering on spine and are also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The accompanying dust jackets good as present BUT is showing shelf wearing light soiling but overall good and served to well protect the hardcover boards under. Standard octavo book size or 6" x 9" with 408 pages.
Hard Tack and Coffee by John D. Billings is subtitled The Unwritten Story of Army Life. Originally published in 1887, it is a memoir from Billings who served in the 10th Massachusetts Volunteer Light Artillery Battery during the Civil War. It is considered to be one of the most important books written by a Civil War veteran.
Chapters include on enlisting, life in tents and log huts, foraging, wagon trains, Army mules, signal corp and much more fill the pages of this book written by an enlisted soldier in the Union Army. Amusing scenes, vivid recollections of everyday life in and out of battle.
