This edition of Nana by Emile Zola is an authorized translation in to English edition by E.A. Vizetelly with a note from Henry James and Intro by Lewis Galantiére. It is finely illustrated by Bernard Lamotte. The French author completed the novel in 1880. It is the story of the rise of a street-walker to high-class "escort" to opera star. Along the way, she destroys every man who is inclined to pursue her.
Nana was the ninth installment in the 20 volume Les Rougon-Macquart series. Zola had never been to the opera but accompanied a friend who told him stories about the life of the star. Such is considered to have inspired Zola to write Nana.
