The Journals of the Expedition of Lewis and Clark 1962 Heritage Press Two Volume set slipcased History Books Rare Books American Pioneers

This is a very good set of two hardcover with accompanying slipcases (see condition notes). 1962 Heritage Press. Both hardcovers are very good BUT Volume One has a small tear to cloth binding bottom edge spine and has apparently been repaired with adhesive to prevent further damage. It is considered a minor flaw as overall the binding to Volume One is very good and tight, all pages tight to binding. Volume Two binding is also tight and straight with only one minor flaw to top edge of spine where small tear to binding present. The inside pages of both are very good, clean with no markings or foxing seen. Each volume is bound in hardcover boards with map illustrations and quarter cloth trim which is where the binding tears appear. The remaining hardcover boards which are illustrated with maps are very good with only a hint of shelf wear. NOTE: The accompanying slipcases are acceptable as present but they are showing much wear and volume one slipcase has come apart and been taped to retain some shape and hold the volume. Given age, overall the hardcovers are very good with acceptable to fair slipcases. They are larger hardcover, imperial octavo book size or 8" x 11" with 545 pages collectively and a pull out map back of volume one which is intact and not tattered.

The Journals of the Expedition Under the Command of Capt.'s Lewis and Clark is subtitled "to the sources of the Missouri, thence across the Rocky Mountains and down the river Columbia to the Pacific Ocean, performed during the years 1804-5-6 by Order of the Government of the United States." The edition is edited by Nicholas Biddle w and intro by John Bakeless and illustrations with water colors and drawings by Carl Boomer and others. Volume One features a pull out map across the western United States intact and in place in this copy. It is the complete journals of the expedition as recorded and highlighted by fine color illustrations and black and white drawings.
