This is a very good hardcover, no dust jacket jacket MISSING. Modern Library 1948 ML #109. This copy is still crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean with no markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Green hardcover boards feature gold and black title/author lettering front along with Modern Library logo and are also very good, clean with only a hint of shelf wear. Crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 278 pages.
This edition of has been translated from the French by Stuart Gilbert. Originally published in 1947, The Plague by Albert Camus is the novel about a French Algerian city called Oran that is in the midst of a plague. For the novel, the author used material about the plague in Oran that occurred in 1849, which struck the city and its population hard. Ironically, the novel resurfaced as a best seller during the covid pandemic of 2020. Sales in Italy tripled and the publisher could not keep up as it became a top-ten bestseller.
