This is a very good hardcover. Second Printing 1960 Yale University Press. This copy is clean inside and out. The pages are very clean with no markings seen. No tanning or foxing to pages seen. Dark blue hardcover boards are also very good, clean with only very light shelf wear. Hardcover boards feature gold title/publisher lettering spine with only light fading of title lettering spine. Crown octavo book size or 5" x 8" with 140 pages including appendix of history, text and suggested reading. Smaller hardcover designed to be a "pocket book" for carrying around and reading anywhere.
Yale University Press began printing The Yale Shakespeare series of William Shakespeare's works in 1918. Since then several reprints have been published in various editions bound in light to dark blue hardcovers. Reprints continued till 1966. Complete sets included 40 volumes.
This copy is The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare. It has been edited by George Van Santvoord. The edition includes The Text, Notes, Sources of the Play, History of the Play, Text of Present Edition, and Suggestions for Collateral Reading. It features a map reproduced from John Norton's "Plan or Birds Eye View of Windsor Castle from the North", executed for James l in 1607 and now preserved in the British Museum.
