Husbandmen of Plymouth by Darrett B. Rutman is subtitled Farms and Villages in The Old Colony 1620-1692. Illustrated endpapers front and back. Picturesque New England towns have their place in concept of the colonial era, springing into what seems to be finished entities. Before them lay a period of development in which the colonial community was made up largely of neighboring farms. It is this earlier era that the author produced this portrait of successful colonization in what was to become New England America. The book was undertaken in close cooperation with Plimoth Plantation, the restoration which memorializes New England's first settlers.
