This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover with accompanying slipcase. 1964 Heritage Press, Illustrator Norman Rockwell. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean with no foxing or markings seen. The binding is tight and straight. Bound in fine sewn binding ensures durability. The hardcover boards feature handsome pattern stamping front and gold lettering spine. No fading to spine. Hardcover boards are near fine. In addition to the classic illustrations from Norman Rockwell, the edition includes ornamental cartouche that frames the date at the head of each Almanac. It was adapted from a stencil for a calling card - one of a set of brass stencils made for Franklin in Paris, 1781, and now possessed by the American Philosophical Society. A truly fine edition of this classic Benjamin Franklin work. The accompanying slipcase is very good with only a hint of shelf wear. The edition is imperial octavo book size or 8" x 11" with 300 pages including notes.

This edition is titled Poor Richard: The Almanacks for the Years 1733-1758 and contains an intro by Van Wick Brooks. It is finely illustrated by Norman Rockwell. It contains the original Sandglass notes pamphlet as published. The yearly almanac was published by Benjamin Franklin under the pseudonym of Poor Richard or Richard Saunders. It covered the years 1732-1758. The almanacs were extremely popular and contained weather forecasts, household hints, poems and proverbs. It also served as a reflection of social norms of the times.
