Satchmo My Life in New Orleans by Louis Armstrong is a journey through jazz music with the incomparable Louis Armstrong. It is a memoir of the first 20 years in New Orleans and concludes when he leaves for Chicago. It is a rich tale filled with characters and idols. Being born in one of the toughest neighborhoods in New Orleans, Armstrong tells of growing up and playing music at a Home for Boys. He played and listened to musicians at Lulu White's Mahogany House on North Basin Street. He hung at jazz joints and finally left to join his idol and mentor, King Joe Oliver, to Chicago.
