This is a near fine (almost like new inside) two volume hardcover set with accompanying slipcase. 1975 First Printing Farrar Straus Giroux Publishing. The pages inside both volumes are still crisp and clean with no markings seen. The bindings are tight and straight. Gold cloth hardcover boards are also near fine with only a hint of shelf wear BUT there is some light fading to the title lettering along the spines of the volumes, but it is light fading only. The accompanying slipcase is very good, very clean and decorated with botany/plant illustrations. There is only very light shelf wear to the slipcase and it is solid. Each volume is medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5" with 319 pages volume one, including index and 821 pages including index in volume two.
Author Richard B. Sewall shows us not only the poet and poetry but also the life and times of Emily Dickenson in this two volume set. It is a richly detailed biography. It was the winner of the National Book Award for Nonfiction and Biography in 1974. The volumes are extensively illustrated with vintage photos of friends, family, locations and more throughout the life of Emily Dickinson.
