Classics of the Old West On The Border with Crook by John G. Bourke circa 1980's Time Life Books Leatherbound Collectible Book Gifts

This is a leather-bound hardcover. Circa 1980's Time Life Classics of the Old West Series. Each of the original 16 volumes in this series was photographically reproduced from the First Edition, and thus preserves the historical authenticity of the original, including typo-graphical errors and printing irregularities. Bound in brown leather, the edition features embossed "Longhorn" design front cover with gold lettering. All three page edges tipped in gold gilt. Marbled endpapers inside front and back add to the fine binding. Attached gold satin ribbon bookmark. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
This copy is very clean inside and out. There is light wearing to the gold gilt page edges but overall very good. The brown leather cover is very good and showing only very light shelf wear. The attached ribbon bookmark is also good with only very light fraying bottom edge. The binding is tight and straight. Each Volume in this series featured an accompanying page of notes and Classic Old West bookplate for the new owner. This copy does have both items accompanying the book (see photo).

On The Border With Crook by John G. Bourke has been considered to be one of the 10 best Western Books of all time. Bourke served under General George Crook for 15 years along the frontiers of of the U.S. from Mexico to Canada. They clashed with the great Sioux and Apache warriors including Sitting Bull, Geronimo, and Crazy Horse. The book is a favorite for those wanting to know how settlers survived and grew through adversity. The military campaigns are detailed and described with anecdotes and deadly encounters. It was first published in 1892.
