Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a leather-bound hardcover. Circa 1980's Time Life Classics of the Old West Series. Each of the original 16 volumes in this series was photographically reproduced from the First Edition, and thus preserves the historical authenticity of the original, including typo-graphical errors and printing irregularities. Bound in brown leather, the edition features embossed "Longhorn" design front cover with gold lettering. All three page edges tipped in gold gilt. Marbled endpapers inside front and back add to the fine binding. Attached gold satin ribbon bookmark. Standard medium octavo book size or 6.5" x 9.5".
This copy is very clean inside and out. There is light wearing to the gold gilt page edges but overall very good. The brown leather cover is very good and showing only very light shelf wear. The attached ribbon bookmark is also good with only very light fraying bottom edge. The binding is tight and straight. Originally each volume contained notes and an accompanying Classic West bookplate for the new owner. This copy DOES NOT have either accompanying it.

Frederick Law Olmsted was America's foremost landscape architect. But first, he was a surveyor, farmer, magazine publisher, and journalist. in 1856-57 he took a saddle trip through Texas to see the country. His description of the Lone Star State on the eve of the Civil War remains one of the best accounts of the American West ever published. It is based on firsthand observations and captures the people, food, conversations and more of the Texas people. It also highlights the the housing, agriculture, animals, weather and more. This edition is subtitled "Saddle Trip on the Southwestern Frontier". It features a pull-out map which is attached and intact inside.
